Small Auva Garden Spade

The Auva spade is a slender, elegant border spade. It has a steam-bent ash shaft and a beech T-handle. The head is work-hardened tin bronze, curved in two planes for additional strength.

The lip at the top of the blade saves your gumboots, too.

The pointed end to the blade is very sharp, allowing it to slice easily into the soil.

It is really lovely to use.

Massive copper alloy.

Weighs 1.66 kg

Length incl head 112

Blade 15 cm x 22cm

THE BENEFITS OF BRONZE TOOLS:

  • They do not rust or corrode – but age with a graceful bronze patina – perfect for the coastal gardener

  • They have very low metal fatigue compared to steel – the result is a very long working life – hence the lifetime guarantee

  • They have a low coefficient of friction – easy to slide into the soil, less tendency for clay to cling to the tool

  • They will stay sharp a very long time and can be touched up with a whet stone, file or preferably by peening (hammering the edge against a steel anvil).

  • They are reputed to have up to 40% increase in cropping evidenced by research – this may be due to the fact that bronze is not magnetic and does not disrupt the electrical fields in the soil, also the minute amounts of copper left in the soil are beneficial

  • They appear to reduce soil pathogens and incidence of slugs and snails

  • Copper tools are recommended by the originator of bio-dynamics, Rudolf Steiner.

  • They are a pleasure to own, look at and use.
